Community ContributionMAEH strives to be a responsible neighbor and a supportive and active member of the community. As a result of our efforts, MAEH has built a positive relationship with the local community. All MAEH sites are open to public inspection and educational visits by appointment. We also run visitor centers and liaise with local resident representatives and groups. IndonesiaThrough PPLi, our facility in Indonesia, MAEH continues to invest heavily in the local community's infrastructure and to provide good quality jobs with excellent benefits. Additionally, PPLi holds regular meetings with the local villages (Desas) and funds sustainable community projects which increase the level of education, health, hygiene, recreation, and religious activities. For example, PPLi constructed and helped operate several community projects including a health clinic, village office, school upgrades, and recreation area with soccer fields. PPLi continues to organize monthly medical visits and treatment for the community and will provide more local employment opportunities for residents as the waste management business improves. ThailandAs part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for establishing ESBEC, MAEH commissioned a professional firm to study the needs of the local community and conduct a public education and consultation program. This study helped MAEH better understand the local community's attitude toward the proposed operation while the education program communicated the importance of sanitary landfills. As a result of this study, ESBEC began donating a portion of its revenues to a managed Community Fund. This fund supports local education and public health efforts and is administered by a committee representing ESBEC, the local community, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), and the owner of the industrial estate. Below are a few pictures that illustrate MAEH's dedication to local communities.
